[ 9 October, 2009 | 19:07 ] politicsAt around 7 p.m. on Friday, more than 50,000 individuals protesting the expected signing of a protocol document between Armenia and Turkey marched to the RoA Presidential Palace to submit a list of demands to President Serzh Sargsyan.
The declaration was read by ARF Supreme Council member Armen Roustamyan who stated, “Mr. President, we, the participants in this thousand strong protest march believe that the foreign policy of Armenia has been diverted from the principle of normalizing Armenia-Turkey relations without preconditions.” »»»»»
[ 9 October, 2009 | 17:21 ] societyToday, the Yerevan Central Police Department received a report that someone had called claiming that a bomb had been placed in the Mayakovsky High School located at 7, Grigor Lousavorich Street.
An emergency services team arrived on the scene and denied that a explosive device had been planted after a thorough investigation. The police later reported that a ninth grade student at the school, 13 year-old Hrach Keshishyan, voluntarily admitted that he had made the prank call.
[ 9 October, 2009 | 16:53 ] criminalAs a result of the investigations carried out by the RoA Chamber of Control Services, ten legal cases have been sent to the General Prosecutor’s Office for examination during 2008-2009.
Six of the cases have been deemed to be criminal in nature. One of the cases was later sent to the Chief Investigations Division of the RoA Police for further examination and three were rejected for future criminal prosecution. »»»»»

Today, a number of Armenian NGO’s met with Aram Gharibyan, advisor to Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, and presented their demands that the government review its decision to grant some 22 hectares of land now belonging to the Jrvezh Park to a neighbouring village.
The meeting was initiated by PM Sargsyan. Karineh Danielyan, President of the “Development in the Name of Humanity” NGO stated that,” I am hopeful that the government will listen to the voice of the people and review its decision.”

[ 9 October, 2009 | 14:12 ] ecologyAccording to a statement released by the Gyumri “Arhaus” environmental NGO, a large number of trees were chopped down at the site of an open-air cafe in the vicinity of the Holy Saviour Church located in the Gyumri Freedom Square. The NGO argues that this is a violation of the stipulations set forth in Arhaus treaty signed by the RoA on October 28, 1998.
As a result there will be a public hearing on the matter on October 13 at the Yerevan “Arhaus” Office located at 46 Charents Street at 3 pm. The hearing is being organized by the Association of Consumers.

The Nakhijevan Institute of Canada, expressing the position of its members and supporters, does NOT accept the protocols between Armenia and Turkey in their current form and content, as an agreed upon basis of the opening of borders and establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Our position is based on the following arguments:
Armenia`s internal week position: the post-soviet period resulted in serious political and socio-economic problems, which are seriously hampering its development.
