Robert Sukiasyan, brother of Civil Contract faction MP Khachatur Sukiasyan, continues to carry out illegal construction in downtown Yerevan despite a Yerevan Municipality decree that prohibiting him from doing so.

Hetq, on March 31, visited the site at the intersection of Khanjyan Street and Tigran Mets Avenue and took photos.

On April 1, Hetq contacted the municipality for clarification. The municipality responded that it had instructed Robert Sukiasyan to halt the construction taking place behind the Queen Burger fast-food eatery.

When asked what action it would take, if the building would be demolished, the municipality replied that Sukiasyan would be fined 200,000 drams (US$415) for starting the construction and an additional 2.5 million drams ($5,191) if the construction continues.

The municipality claimed it couldn’t dismantle the building since it was constructed on land owned by private individuals, the Sukiasyan family.

The family leased part of the 768 square-meter plot to Queen Burger.
