Armenian Opposition Fails to Convene Parliamentary Special Session on Artsakh

Armenian National Assembly opposition MPs failed to convene a special session today to approve a resolution rejecting any peace accord that would restore Azerbaijan’s control over Nagorno-Karabakh.

All 73 Pro-government MPs failed to show at the session, resulting in a non-quorum.

The opposition drafted the resolution last week.

Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, at the time, announced that the ruling Civil Contract faction would boycott the session.

Simonyan did show up at today’s session but left the chamber after waiting four hours for a quorum.

The opposition bill also states that Baku must free all Armenian POWs and detainees and withdraws its troops from Armenian border areas before any demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border begins.
