Yerevan: Anti-Government Protesters to Remove Tents from France Square

Anti-government movement leader Ishkhan Saghatelyan announced that protesters will disassemble tents they had installed and occupied in Yerevan’s France Square weeks ago.

Saghatelyan, at a June 14 rally, said the movement that seeks to force the resignation of PM Nikol Pashinyan needed to change its tactics by organizing its forces via the internet.

"Considering our upcoming tactics, we suggest disassembling the tents starting tomorrow. The further effectiveness of our struggle from now on is not conditioned by tents," Saghatelyan said.

Some rallygoers opposed removing the tents.

Saghatelyan announced the movement’s “street struggle” would continue but on a non-permanent basis. He promised that weekly rallies would take place and that the movement would reach out to young Armenian professionals.

Saghatelyan argued while the number of people who oppose the Pashinyan government is great, the movement hasn’t been able to “fight in the streets”.

He said the movement will open branches in Artsakh and the diaspora and will open a bank account to solicit funds.
