Armenia's Anti-Corruption Court Reviewing Businessman's Purchase of State Land

Armenia’s Civil Anti-Corruption Court is now reviewing the case of businessman Samvel Mayrapetyan who purchased two hectares of Kotayk province woodland in 2007.

The General Prosecutor's Office wants the court to invalidate the 2007 decision of the Kotayk governor to sell the state land to Mayrapetyan.

Hetq investigated how various government officials and their affiliates purchased several plots of state woodland, that had been transferred to the Hrazdan municipality, in a land grab disguised as a public auction.

Mayrapetyan, who is currently under investigation in another case, has no intention of returning the illegally acquired two to the state. He claims the statute of limitations prevents the court from mandating that the land be returned.
