Serzh to Raffi: Stop Hunger Strike and We Can Start Talking Seriously
Responding to Raffi Hovannisian’s final “compromise offer” which was announced at the Barevolution rally on Friday, Serzh Sargyan today issued a statement stating that while the proposals were far removed from being constitutional, they might provide the basis for future dialog.
On Friday, Hovannisian announced that he would be sending his final offer to Sargsyan in an attempt to find some middle ground. The Heritage Party leader called for a repeat of the February 18 presidential election and for snap parliamentary elections by year’s end.
Hovannisian also called for the handing over of the Prosecutor General’s post and two ministries to individuals of his choosing. He also called for the replacement of five Regional Governors (Marzpet).
Sargsyan credited Hovannisian for his willingness to assume the monitoring functions appropriate for a strong opposition.
Sargsyan said that if he and Hovannisian begin to work together in a targeted way based on general commonalities, they will ultimately be successful in resolving the post-election stalemate.
Sargsyan also called on Hovannisian to end his hunger strike and to take a day or two of rest before launching such efforts.
“After resting up, we can calmly and without fanfare get down to serious work, even based on your proposed, but as yet, rough draft,” Sargsyan concluded.
