Hovannisian and Police Chief Negotiate; Police Bar March Up Baghramyan Avenue

The tense stand-off between protesting citizens and police on Baghramyan Avenue ended when a cordon of cops forcibly pushed Raffi Hovannisian back through the crowd.

Hovannisian wanted to lead the marchers, numbering several thousand, up Baghramyan Avenue and then towards Tziternakaberd, the Genocide Memorial Complex.

When the marchers entered Baghramyan Avenue, they were met with cops in riot gear and black-hooded “special forces” who barred their way.

During the stand-off, Hovannisian negotiated with RA Police Chief Vladimir Gasbaryan to permit the marchers up Baghramyan to the Barekamutyun Metro where they would then turn-off towards the bridge leading towards the Complex.

For those not familiar with Yerevan, the Presidential Palace is located on Baghramyan Avenue.

Evidently, Gasbaryan rejected the request since the police soon forcibly pushed Hovannisian and hundreds of citizens back down Baghramyan.
