After numerous Hetq readers requested that we obtain and publish a copy of the “EU-Armenia Association Agreement”, we contacted the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Unfortunately, the Ministry balked, arguing that the publication of such an international treaty must follow the procedures as set down in the law.

This was an obtuse way of saying “there’s no way we will reveal the full text of the treaty.”

Hetq had written to Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandyan, saying that our readers had asked us to obtain a full copy of the treaty and that all our efforts in this regard had failed.

We told FM Nalbandyan that based on Armenia’s Freedom of Information Law we were requesting that the full text of the treaty be made available.

After receiving the above response from the Ministry, Hetq has written another letter, asking that they specify what clauses in the law they cite prevents the disclosure of the treaty’s text.
