minas-avetisyan_1704091An exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the painter Minas Avetisyan, is taking place at the National Picture Gallery in Yerevan. The painter's wife, Gayaneh Mamajanyan, told "Hetq" that, "The first time Minas took me to his studio I immediately fell in love with his art."She said that of all the canvases on exhibit there wasn't one that she liked to a lesser degree than the others. On exhibit are 56 works of Minas Avetisyan representing various periods of his creative life. Also available is a catalogue of 115 paintings by the late master. Also on display are personal items of Minas Avetisyan; a chair, palette, brushes. Minas Avetisyan's granddaughter, Gayaneh Avetisyan, told "Hetq" that all her grandfather's works hold a special place in her heart. "In addition, I grew up with these paintings. Naturally, there's a great deal of emotionalism attached to them. They make me quite proud. It's difficult for me to pick out any particular one as my favorite." minas-nkar11 The painter's son, Narek Avetisyan, a painter in his own right, confessed that its hard to avoid being influenced by his father's work. "I have tried to steer clear, to be my own man. But I've come to agree with his view that art must instill faith and free. I have come to the conclusion that art should not be categorized." Attending the exhibition was Professor Avik Isahakyan, Director of the Armenian Literature Institute of the RoA Academy of Science. He especially was enthralled by the colors. "This constitutes a victory of color. For me, painting is first and foremost a matter of color, then content. Color is at the heart of Minas' work. No one can duplicate it." In the painter's own words - Art must be the response to the lies and deception that surround us.
