Drug Price "Fixing" Launches State Probe; Legal Action Probable

In a conversation with "Hetq", Armineh Udoumyan, Press Secretary at the State Committee for the Defense of Economic Competition, stated that due the recent drastic rise in certain drugs, the Committee has implemented monitoring of the prices being charged and that legal action will probably result against those who are artificially "fixing prices". "At the moment, our monitoring shows that there is a tendency afoot between drug importers and retailers to act in unison and raise prices. This is in violation of economic competition laws. We are talking about three types of drugs – anti-virus, diabetic and cardiovascular. These are the three groups are vital to a vast number of patients," stated Mrs. Udoumyan. She said it was too early to name specific companies violating the laws regarding free and fair economic competition, adding that names would be supplied after the monitoring is completed.
