Marxist Party Prez - "I'll get the people's madate in January election"

Armenia’s Marxist Party President, Davit Hakobyan, is running in the by-election for the 10th Parliamentary District this coming January. Today, at a press conference, he offered his opinions regarding the others in the race. Summing up, Mr. Hakobyan stated that the campaign to be waged is of no interest to the public and that it has no expectations of any major changes in the offing. He again argued that new times call for new leaders and argued that Armenia’s First President, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, must be relegated to the pages of history, likening him to Napoleon’s Waterloo. Mr. Hakobyan said that the same could be said for Vazgen Manukyan and the Demirchyan’s, both father and son. The Marxist Party leader described the Armenian National Assembly as being a "house of prostitution" where everything is bought with money. "Intellectual capital must win out over financial capital in the parliament," Mr. Hakobyan argued. Regarding Nikol Pashinyan, one of his challengers in the upcoming election, Mr. Hakobyan stated that a large amount of financial resources would need to be spent to ensure his victory and that neither the "miserly" HHZh (Armenian National Movement) or the Sukiasyan family had such resources. Mr. Hakobyan boasted that, "I see no serious challengers to my victory and that I my candidacy is on a much higher level in terms of principles." He claimed that the voters would give him the mandate to represent them in parliament but he questioned whether the powers that be would see that the votes cast in his favour would actually be recorded as such.
