Yerevan Decked-Out for the Holidays; X-Mas Tree to Top Last Year's

Benefactors pick up costs to decorate Yerevan for the holiday season Holiday decorations all over Yerevan are in full swing according to the Yerevan Municipality. The lights will be turned on, illuminating the huge artificial holiday tree in Republic Square, at 6 pm on December 25. Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan will officially turn on the switch. On New Year’s Eve, December 31, from between 9 pm till 1 in the morning, Republic Square will reverberate with music supplied by Santa DJ’s and his helpers. At exactly midnight, fireworks will go off at fifteen sites throughout the capital. Republic Square will be the site for various kiddie events and shows from January 1-13. From 10 pm to 1 am on January 13, a holiday concert will take place at the central square in downtown Yerevan including well-known singers and ensembles. The Municipality informed “Hetq” that all the costs for the holiday festivities have been taken care of by various benefactors, whose names and donations remain a secret. The Yerevan subway will operate till 1 am on January 1 to take revellers home after a night out on the town. The Municipality noted that Russian experts had been flown in this year to work on the tree in Republic Square and promised that it would have more lights and decorations than last year. 4,128 decorations and 31,200 lights will adorn this year’s tree.
