Arman Gharibyan

Head of Manufacturers’ Union – Government Support Lacking

Vazgen Safaryan, chairman of the Union of Domestic Manufacturers of Armenia, today said that for the past twenty year, the Armenians government hasn’t directed enough attention to the manufacturing sector. Mr. Safaryan, at a press conference, argued for drastic changes to Armenia’s economic thought process. He also referred to the expected price hikes in gas supplies and said that manufacturers were worried about the impact it would have. He said that HayRusGazArd, the Russian utility supplier, should come up with more acceptable gas prices, given that Armenia is regarded as Russia’s strategic ally. "We will continue negotiations until we reach an acceptable level of gas prices for our country," Mr. Safaryan said. The Union of Domestic Manufacturers is drafting a set of proposals for government review on the matter.
