Republican Party MP Vardan Ayvazyan and ARF MP Artzvik Minasyan squared off at a press conference today regarding the government’s proposed tax package directed at local self-government institutions. MP Minasyan said that the legislation had been roundly criticized by not only the ARF but by the majority of MP’s as well. He pointed out that the package was lacked justification in the economic, social, legal and political sectors. MP Minasyan said that while the ARF wasn’t averse to developing the financial resources of local government bodies, "We oppose such tax proposals that haven’t been carefully drafted or analyzed and which are presented as the country’s saviour." MP Ayvazyan countered by saying that the proposed legislation was designed to ratify two important types of taxes, land and inventory, and that they are vital for the proper functioning of local government bodies.
