MP Sahakyan - President Sargsyan Will Run for Re-Election in 2013

MP Galust Sahakyan, who heads the ruling Republican Party faction in the Armenian Parliament, today asserted that current President Serzh Sargsyan would run again for re-election in 2013 and that it wasn't likely that former President Robert Kocharyan would run as well. Republican Party MP’s Gagik Minasyan and Vazgen Karakhanyan noted that they would support the nomination of President Sargsyan. The three MP’s also said that the country would gradually stabilize and that snap elections were out of the question. "They are empty dreams. The opposition HAK, by making such demands, is only looking for a way to get into power," said MP Sahakyan. They also announced that President Sargsyan had accepted U.S. President Obama’s invitation to take part in the upcoming nuclear arms conference on April 12-13 in Washington DC. MP Sahakyan said that the invitation was a reflection of the respect towards the Armenian government on the part of the U.S. He didn’t rule out the possibility that President Sargsyan would meet with Turkish representatives while in Washington DC.
