Armenia to have National Platform for Disaster Mitigation

As part of a package of reforms, the Ministry of Emergency Situations is planning to establish and Inspectorate of Emergency Situations.  This body is expected to not only supervise technical security and safety against fire but also to expose sites that are considered unsafe and take measures against those responsible for their use. In a statement to the media, a Ministry of Emergency Situations spokesman Nikolay Grigoryan said that decisions at the Ministry were being taken very quickly and projects were moving efficiently over the past month.  The Ministry soon aims to be a structure that will not only respond to emergencies but will also prevent all risks and dangers.  “All state structures should work with the Ministry of Emergency Situations.  Each risk and every danger will be under the supervision of the Ministry.  We are moving towards developing a country that is resilient to any disaster, so that we don’t just work after such incidents, looking to find whom to blame and hold responsible.  This preventive work needs to be done on a daily basis.  Soon we will have a national platform for disaster mitigation.”
