VTB Bank Refuses to Meet with Teghut Activists
Bank employees say they have no manager
When protestors at today’s demonstration outside the offices of VTB Bank on Nalbandyan Strret demanded to speak to an official inside, they were told that the bank "had no manager". This created a roar of laughter and ridicule from the ranks of the protestors who had blocked off the steps leading to the bank.Bank customers, neglecting the calls of the Teghut Defense Group not to do any business with a bank funding the mining operation in the pristine forest of northern Armenia, walked over the protestors to get inside. Reporters on the scene tried to get some comment from bank officials, but were met with silence. Employees said they had no manager and that even his deputy was away on vacation. Hetq attempted to get some comment from the bank’s press attaché. The person refused to give their name and said that the bank wouldn’t be answering any questions from the press. "Go talk to the Armenian Copper Programme. That’s the company conducting the mining operation", was all the press attaché dared say/ When asked by Hetq if VTB wasn’t the one financing the project, the press attaché replied, no.
