Heritage Party Will Run in Upcoming Elections; Either Alone or in Alliance

During a visit to Vanadzor on September 24, Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian said that his party would be participating in the upcoming elections in Armenia but that it was too early to state in what form.

Meeting with local residents, Hovannisian stated that he had come to gauge the “pulse of the people” and told them that they held the responsibility of deciding their future in their own hands.

Hovannisian argues that only through regime change would the problems facing Armenia be resolved and added that regime change could either be realized ‘internally’, which hasn’t been the case, or via elections.

The party leader did speculate that Heritage would attempt to incorporate a variety of political and civil forces active in Armenia.

“But if things turn out like in the past, when everyone goes their own route to secure their little portion of the pie, then Heritage will struggle alone,” said Hovannisian.

He said that while the party has yet to debate the formation of a coalition with other parties, Heritage would ally with all old and new opposition parties if there was a willingness to do so.
