Banks in Armenia: 2013 Profits and Losses

In 2013, Armenia’s 21 commercial banks made 42.7 billion AMD in after tax profits as opposed to the 36 billion in the previous year.

According to interim published reports two of the banks closed the year with losses: Anelik Banks (1.4 billion) and Byblos Bank (350 million).

Of the two, only AnelikBank operated with a loss last year, the losses of the other was based on 2013 figures.

Two banks that closed 2012 with losses reversed the trend in 2013.

While ArmBusiness Bank should losses of 1.2 billion in 2012, this year it shows 2.5 billion in profit (the highest recorded profit increase of any bank)

HSBC showed the highest profit amount - 8 billion, followed by Ardshininvest Bank (6.5 billion) and AmeriaBank (6.1 billion).

Eleven banks showed a growth in profits and ten, a decrease.

To a certain extent, this is evidence of a increase in bank sector centralization.
