Diaspora Minister Touts "Ari Toun" as a Matchmaker Program; Cites Example of MP's Daughter

Promoting the Ari Toun (Come Home) program, Diaspora Affairs Minister Hranoush Hakobyan was quick to point out today in the Armenian parliament that the daughter of MP Karineh Ajemian found her future husband through the program that brings young diaspora Armenians to Armenia to attend summer camps and other activities.

During a review of the 2013 state budget, Minister Hakobyan stated that while the Ari Toun program is an important vehicle to introduce diaspora Armenians to life in Armenia, it receives minimal funding.

Addressing the parliament the minister declared that more funding would allow more diaspora young people to visit Armenia, adding that many return to study in Armenian colleges and universities but also create new families.

“One is you daughter, whom we married off as a result of this program,” Hakobyan pointed out to MP Ajemian.
