Over 10,000 Sign Petition Asking Armenian President to Raise Hayrapetyan's Release in Meeting with Putin

An open letter to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan signed by10,986 citizens of Armenia, Artsakh, and the Armenian diaspora urges him to raise with Russian President Vladimir Putin at their August 8–9 meeting the issue of changing the precautionary measure of Armenian philanthropist Levon Hayrapetyan arrested in Moscow because of the condition of his health, reports Artsakh Today press center.

"The Moscow court in an appellate procedure on August 13 will examine the attorneys' appeal against the use of arrest as a precautionary measure for Levon Hayrapetyan. The cluster of illnesses from which Hayrpaetyan is currently suffering (cancer, diabetes, hypertension, post-stroke situation), as well as the sharp deterioration of his health in recent days, which caused a few fainting [spells] in the detention center, require immediacy to release him from detention and move him to hospital — arising from both legal acts of the Russian Federation and purely humanitarian considerations.

"Taking into account the upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin on August 8–9 in Sochi, we ask you to raise, along with the situation at the Artsakh border, also the issue of changing Levon Hayrapetyan's precautionary measure, taking into consideration the day-to-day deteriorating condition of his health," reads the open letter, which was signed also by the entire population of Hayrapetyan's native village of Vank.
