June Floods: Armenian Opposition Party To Sue Yerevan Mayor for Incompetence

Armenia’s Yerkir Tsirani opposition party says it’s ready to launch a class action suit against Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan for embezzlement of public funds, incompetence, and other illegalities, all of which, the party argues led to flooding in several major Yerevan streets on June 12.

The party claims that Yerevan lacks a proper sewage and water removal system.

Yerkir Tsirani, in its statement, accuses Margaryan of gross dereliction of duties since assuming the office of Yerevan mayor in 2009 and of squandering some 100 million euros in loans that have been issued the municipality for improving the water distribution and removal system.

The party says its willing to sue the mayor on behalf of all those Yerevan residents and business that suffered due to the flooding.

It's about time someone took action, last time I visited Yerevan, lovely as it was, I wasn't blind to the dirty and smelly canals !

For Armenia being the land of chess, some of its actors couldn't act in a less strategic manner. Maybe this english-language summary doesn't explain the lawsuit well enough, but it sounds like Yerkir Tsirani is just going to make a big bluster and throw every accusation they can at them. That's like charging all your Chess pieces at your enemy with no strategy in mind. It doesn't work in chess and it won't work in a lawsuit.
