Pashinyan Says Dilijan National Park Must be Saved from "Wood Mafia"
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has called for the end of the destruction of the Dilijan National Park and a halt to the actions of the “wood mafia”.
“I am taking a firm position on the matter, and I hope that all present will be so advised,” Pashinyan said at a meeting with Dilijan community residents, according to a government press release.
Dilijan National Park has been in the news of late after Haghartzin village residents attacked four environmental activists who were patrolling the park to prevent illegal logging.
Several days later, residents of Haghartzin and surrounding villages blocked the M4 highway linking Armenia and Georgia and demanded that the government allow them to enter Dilijan National Park to cut down trees for fuel.
