New Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan Sworn In
Hayk Marutyan, the new mayor of Yerevan, took the oath of office today․
Afterwards, Marutyan, better known as a TV personality who publicly supported the anti-government campaign launched by Nikol Pashinyan last spring, said: “I remember each of the instructions given to us by the residents of Yerevan – to restore cleanliness, to make it green, to develop it, and, most importantly, to do so above board, in a just manner.”
Also attending the swearing in ceremony were Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, President Armen Sarkissian, and Catholicos Garegin II.
Marutyan’s “My Step” party won a landslide victory in the September 23 Yerevan Municipal Council election garnering 81.06% of the vote. The party now holds 57 seats on the council.
The Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) holds five seats, and the Light Alliance holds three.
