Sasna Tzrer - "Unequal Playing Field in December 9 Parliamentary Election"

In a statement released yesterday, the Sasna Tzrer Pan-Armenian Party, which came in 7th in the December 9 snap election in Armenia with 1.82% of the vote, writes that while the election was mostly free and transparent changes to the electoral code and the law on political parties resulted in an unequal playing field.

The statement says that this allowed the oligarchy to partially slip into the parliament. (Perhaps, the reference is to the Prosperous Armenia Party headed by multi-millionaire Gagik Tsarukyan-ed).

“For this reason, we are obliged to state that the election cannot be unreservedly considered just,” the Sasna Tzrer statement reads.

Concluding, the statement says that the party, nevertheless, accepts the election results as the will of the people and congratulates the My Step Alliance for its win.

In its statement, Sasna Tzrer describes the December 9 snap parliamentary elections “as an essential step forward to establishing democracy and a national system of government in Armenia after getting rid of the former criminal regime.”
