Jirayr Sefilyan: “Politics is the reason why they keep denying me citizenship”

Jirayr Sefilyan reflected today on repeated failed attempts to receive RoA citizenship and stated that former President Kocharyan refused him twice and current President Sargsyan refused him once. Mr. Sefilyan, by law, had to wait one year after his last refusal before applying for citizenship once again.

That one year recently expired and Mr. Sefilyan’s lawyer went to inquire about reapplying for citizenship. It now appears that another impediment has surfaced that will not even allow Mr. Sefilyan from filing citizenship application papers. »»»»»

Hmayak Hovhannisyan – Authorities Have Taken Steps to Ensure Low Turnout

Hmayak Hovhannisyan, President of the Political Analysts Union, who pulled out of today’s parliamentary by-election in favour of Nikol Pashinyan, told “Hetq” that the ruling regime had taken measures to ensure that today’s voter turnout would be the lowest possible. He argued that this would allow them to rig the election in their favour.

“They coerced people to promise that they wouldn’t go to the polls. This way they could use the empty ballots to cast votes for their guy. They have lists of those who promised don’t to show up. This just goes to prove that Resolution 4 of the European Council hasn’t made a difference,” stated Mr. Hovhannisyan. »»»»»

The Safaryan’s are the only Armenian family residing in Kuzguncuk, a neighborhood in the Üsküdar municipality on the Asian side of the Bosphorus in Istanbul   Gurgen is the eldest son. He was only two and a half years old when the family left Yerevan thirteen years ago and resettled in Istanbul. The family’s second child, Haykoush, was born in Turkey.

Armenia’s Population Dropped by Almost 1 Million in Last Twenty Years

27_10-asulisAccording to this year’s Human Development Report, published by the United Nations Development Program, Armenia has a Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.798, giving the country a rank of 84 out of 182 countries with data.This year’s HDI refers to 2007. Between 1990 and 2007 Armenia’s HDI rose by 0.51% annually from 0.731 to 0.798 today.
