Brutal Assault on Attorney Argishti Kiviryan
[ 2009/04/30 | 11:13 ]
At five in the night, Argishti Kiviryan, who runs the “Armenia Today” website, was brutally attacked at the entrance to his house at #9 Nalbandyan Street. Mr. Kiviryan was rushed to the Erebuni Medical Center. He is now in the intensive care unit.

His wife, attorney Lusineh Sahakyan believes that the attack was a result of his professional work. It can’t be ruled out however that the attack stems from the fact that Ms. Sahakyan is the defense attorney for former military prosecutor Gagik Jhangiryan.

It appears that rubber truncheons were used in the beating and initial reports also indicate that shots were fired as well, but that Mr. Kiviryan didn’t suffer any bullet wounds.

Photo-journalist Gagik Shamshyan was on the scene of yesterday’s attack and photographed the area. The attackers left a wooden club they used to beat Mr. Kiviryan during their flight.
Hopefully this time around the police will be able to apprehend the attackers. They only have to thoroughly inspect the attack site and follow the clues left behind.

Unfortunately situation in Armenia becoming worse every year. The oligarchs, mafia, criminals and low class, rich uneducated rule our poor country and it will not prosper while they have power. I came to Armenia 3 years ago and now extremely frustrated with this country and have no more hope for it. Nothing to do here, only one thing remains it is beautiful nature that it is it. I think our Diaspora should stop helping current government until they suffocate. We need to do something about our country it should not belong to criminals, mafia and current government.

You are absolutely, right. It’s my country where i was born and raised and sadly left. Armenian people do not get even a penny what Diaspora is sending. People in Leninakan still live in garages since 1988! It’s a shame! And now, it’s worse than ever: people die from hunger and sicknesses, drugs everywhere, prostitution, and a government full of robbers and criminals. No help should go to Armenia, and Dashnaktutyun Party should start a revolution there!!!
