Unknown Assailants Harass “HAK” Supporters
[ 2009/04/28 | 00:59 ]A statement issued by HAK (Armenian National Congress) reports that groups of its young supporters distributing campaign flyers for the upcoming sanctioned May 1st public rally were confronted by unknown individuals dressed in plainclothes who proceeded to scuffle with the HAK supporters, confiscate their flyers and take some of them away.
Incidents were reported on Amiryan Street, Mashtots Avenue, in the vicinity of Swan Lake and in the Arabkir district. The statement notes that police officers did nothing to stop the assaults even after being asked for help by the young HAK members. Reporters on the scene were able to videotape those involved and several license plate numbers.
In its statement, HAK claimed that these assaults were organized from a central location and thus placed the onus of responsibility on the authorities in power and especially Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan.
