By a vote of six to two, Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission rejected HAK’s petition to have the May 31 Yerevan municipal election nullified. HAK had petitioned the CEC yesterday, claiming widespread voting violations.
Zoya Tadevosyan (Heritage Party) and Hamlet Abrahamyan (ARF) were the two dissenting votes.
HAK (Armenian National Congress), the opposition alliance that came in third place in the official vote count in the May 31 Yerevan municipal elections, sent a petition to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) demanding that it declare the election null and void.
HAK says that it has sent documentation to the CEC which it says substantiates widespread violations in the run-up to the election, on election day itself and the ensuing ballot recounts.
Onik Aleksanyan, President of the District Electoral Commission of the 8/15 polling precinct was arrested today by the RoA Special Investigative Service for tampering with the vote count in the May 31 Yerevan municipal council election.
Due to numerous reports of vote fraud in the May 31 Yerevan municipal elections, the RoA Special Investigative Service will conduct a recount of ballots cast in the 8/05 polling precinct. The recount will take place at 2:00 pm today. »»»»»
During a wide-ranging press conference held today Tigran Karapetyan, who heads the People’s Party, blasted the May 31 municipal elections as “demeaning”, saying that there could be no talk of a democratic process having taken place.

Tigran Karapetyan, leader of the People’s Party, stated to “Hetq” that the results of yesterday’s municipal elections do not reflect reality. His party only received 2.14% of the vote according to official results. »»»»»
With a mere 4.65% share of yesterday’s election vote, the ARF failed to hit the 7% threshold for city council representation.
When we tried to get ARF candidate Artzvik Minasyan to comment on yesterday’s vote results he responded with “no comment”. He said that the ARF’s Supreme Council would issue a statement today.
