13:44, February 13, 2012Khashtarak Village Mayor Hayk Kamalyan was re-elected to office the other day in a race that pitted him against two other candidates.
1,070 out of an eligible 1,418 voters went to the polls in this village some 11 kilometres from the town of Ijevan in northern Armenia.
Kamalyan, a member of the ruling Republican Party, garnered 466 votes. Coming in second with 296 was Prosperous Armenia Party member Andranik Virabyan. Close behind in third place was Artur Vanesyan, also from the Republican Party. (23 ballots were disqualified).
Residents call Khashtarak “Armenia’s Hollywood” since a number of films were shot her including the Soviet hits We Are, Our Mountains” and “The Men”.
