Company Belonging to Brother of Vanadzor Mayor "Wins" Another Construction Contract

It seems that the brother of the mayor of the northern Armenian town of Vanadzor was “given” a 300 million AMD contract to pave a few local streets.

On April 11, 2013, the state government allocated the 300 million from its reserve fund for the paving work.

Seyran Gharibyan, who owns the Argishti 1 company that will undertake the work, is the brother of Vanadzor Mayor Samvel Gharibyan.

The work contract was signed on June 7 between Seyran Gharibyan and Ashot Manoukyan, Chief of Staff at the Lori Provincial Administration.

Mayor Gharibyan also is a stockholder in his brother’s company.

Armen Zanazanyan, who runs the Department of Urban Construction at the Lori Administration, told Hetq that the provincial government has the authority to grant such contracts without any tender bid.

Zanazanyan added that Argishti 1 is one of the biggest road construction companies around and best capable to get the job finished on time.
