Membership Benefits? Armenia’s Exports to EEU Countries Plummet

Armenia exported US$694.4 in goods during the first half of 2015, a 1.3% drop from the same period last year.

Imports to Armenia in the first half of 2015 decreased by 27.2%; totaling $1.491 billion. Nevertheless, Armenia’s trade balance remains in the red.

Exports remain limited to a few main sectors. In the first half of this year the export of raw materials from mining led the way at $236.055 million, followed by finished foodstuffs ($123.613 million), non-precious metals and derived items ($123.165 million), precious and semi-precious stones and derived items ($95.959 million), textiles ($31 million), and plant products ($20.479 million).

Six months after joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Armenia’s trade figures with the other member states remain unfavorable.

Armenia’s trade with Russia for the first half of 2015 stood at $491.2 million; a drop of 21.9% over the same period last year.

Armenia exported $70.8 million in goods to Russia in the first half of this year (a drop of 47.1%), and imported $420.3 million in good from Russia (a drop of 15.1%).

Armenia exported $2.37 million in goods to Kazakhstan in the first half of 2015(a drop of 33%), and imported $128,000 in goods (a drop of 51.6%).

Armenia exported $2.6 million in goods to Belarus (a drop of 29.7%), and imported $10.7 in goods (a drop of 12.1%).
