The first group of Doukhobors comprised of 800 people emigrated from Georgia in the fall of 1841, establishing themselves in the present-day villages of Garelovka, Orlovka, and Spasovka in the region of Ninotsminda in Javakhq, as well as other, adjacent villages. Only 150 Doukhobors remain in the region today. Beginning from 1989, the Doukhobors in 3 groups moved to the Russian Federation. Despite this, Doukhobor Nikolai Sukharukov is convinced that the Doukhobors will again return to the region, and they will be new people.
