Members of the Dem Em (I Oppose) movement, which opposes mandatory payments in the government’s recently launched and much maligned pension system, gathered on the sidewalk opposite the Ministry of Finance and demanded that the government resolve the plight of government instructors and scientific researchers now obligated to make such payments from their salaries. They wanted to cross the street and hand a letter of protest to the ministry but the police prevented them. Some protesters tried to find another avenue of approach. But the police grabbed them and escorted them back. The protesters then demanded to know why they were being prevented from crossing the street. The police offered no explanation and the protesters never were able to deliver their protest letter.
