Marchers protesting ‘state terrorism’ wound their way through downtown Yerevan today and headed for the police building. They were out to voice their concerns regarding a recent spate of assaults against those expressing criticism of the government or who had, in one way or another, personally chastised President Serzh Sargsyan. Those assaulted have included Artsakh War vets, MPS and average citizens. When the marchers approached the police building, a cordon of cops barred their way. Staffers from the Human Rights Defender’s Office, who had been alerted to the scene, tried to reason with the police. Afterwards, the staffers told the marchers that the police would not let them pass because they were ‘aggressive’.
