Yerevan Public Transportation Drivers Go On Strike

Scores of Yerevan public mini-van drivers have been on strike for the past three days, protesting the rise in fuel prices that is hitting them in the pocketbook. The drivers have proposed several solutions including state regulation of fuel prices. If the latter isn’t practical, they have suggested fuel subsidies or that taxes levied on route owners be lightened. This morning, striking drivers in the Sebastia district of Yerevan called on other drivers and commuters to join their work stoppage. Drivers in the Nor Nork district also staged a walk-out.
