The village of Yenokavan in Tavoush Marz has around 550 residents.
Yenokavan, near the Tavoush forests, is 11 kilometers from the regional center of Ijevan. Many have emigrated from the village in recent years.
Most Yenokavan residents make a living from agriculture and livestock husbandry.
These resort cabins, along with the village municipal office and school, provide the main jobs for Yenokavan residents.
Some Yenokavan residents work at the new church construction site in the village. They say that the church is being built by the mayor’s brother who lives in Russia. Newly cut lumber has been brought to the site.
Ashot Pashinyan was born and raised in Yenokavan Mountains. He later lived in Yerevan and Abovyan but the nature of his native village called him back. He now lives in Yenokavan with his family and makes a living tilling the land and raising animals.
Edgar, a Yenokavan native, now lives in Azatamout where he’ll soon start to work. He says that agriculture and animal husbandry are thankless jobs and that’s why the youth seek other employment.
Many travel to Yenokavan to visit Lastiver (Anapat) lost in the mountains and valleys. To reach Lastiver requires a minimum two hour walk from Yenokavan.
The road from Yenokavan to Lastiver is rocky and unpaved. To the left are forested mountains. One can hear the warble of the forest birds, while the crocking of frogs emanates from the marshes near the resort cabins.
When the rocky road comes to a stop, one has to travel along a narrow path through the forest that sometimes stretches along the valley precipice.
One often encounters trees uprooted from natural landslides.
One also comes across an equal number of trees chopped down by men. Judging by the freshness of the logs, the trees were cut down some time ago.
This cavern is a natural wonder of the Lastiver forest.

Visitors to the cave have defaced the cave walls by carving their names.
A bit below the cave. These kiosks, tents and cabins are in the resort area along the banks of the Khachaghbyur River.
The brothers Vahan and Hovhannes Tananyan built this resort area from scratch 8 years ago and still maintain it. In 2010, they obtained a 35 year lease from the HayAntar SNCO.
Hovhannes says he owns the property and charges people an entrance fee to use the area, which annoys some visitors. He shows me the lease permit as proof which states, however, that the property belongs to the state.
In the past, Hovhannes used to sleep in this tree house for protection from roving animals at night.
Hovhannes and Vahan also built this cabin built on a rock.
