Shnogh Forest – Vale of Death

500 healthy trees were recently cut down on a slope in the forest near the village of Shnogh. The site is in the Lalvar forest preserve. Such logging does not correspond to official norms that prohibit the felling of trees located on inclines between 30 and 40%. When trees are cut in such fashion erosion risks increase. Most of the trees were logged on the site and natural regrowth is impossible. The photos show that the logging occurred in recent months. The site is on the 20 kilometer road leading to the Teghout mine. The road was built by operators of the mine to replace the previous one on which the tailings dam was constructed. The photos show the destruction along the first 5-7 kilometer stretch of the road. There are other hilly areas there that also have been almost totally stripped of trees.
