Criminal Case Initiated on Sexual Exploitation of Several Residents of Gyumri in Turkey

The Police Investigation Division of Shirak region initiated a criminal case on the sexual exploitation of several residents of Gyumri in Turkey.

The study of the materials revealed that the resident of Yerevan S. Martirosyan who temporary resided in Turkey under the nickname “Doctor” with the help of her debtor N. Movsisyan recruited the resident of Gyumri Gayane and took her to Trabzon, Turkey in August, 2010.

On arriving in Trabzon, S. Martirosyan passed N. Movsisyan and Gayane to a Turkish procurer Safa. The latter exploited N. Movsisyan and Gayane 20 hours a day for 4 days and gave the received money to S. Martirosyan.

Later, N. Movsisyan and Gayane refused to engage in prostitution and the procurer Safa passed them to the Police of Turkey and as a result of this they were deported.

According to the materials of the preliminary investigation S. Martirosyan demaded from N. Movsisyan either to return her debt or for the sexual exploitation to recruit women and transfer them to Turkey. Based on the evidence, N. Movsisyan, under the pretext of nursing, recruited and on August 4, 2011 took the citizen of Gyumri Karine to Trabzon, Turkey.

S. Martirosyan made use of Karine’s vulnerability and made her to engage in prostitution by explaining to the latter that she had a debt of about 5000 USD for the travel expenses, clothes and place of living.

Karine was engaged in prostitution in “Isik” hotel in Trabzon from August to December 1, 2011 and S. Martirosyan took the significant amount of the money. Later, Karine was also deported from Turkey.

On 11 February 2012, the Police Investigation Division of Shirak region initiated a criminal case. On 14 February 2012, S. Martirosyan and N. Movsisyan were charged according to the RA Criminal Code Article 132, part 2, points 1 and 2. Arrest was chosen as a pretrial measure against them.

RoA Prosecutor General's Office reports that the criminal case was sent to the General Investigation Department of the RA Police. The preliminary investigation is underway.

Note: The names of the sexually exploited women are changed.
