Kalust Sahakyan - Knows But Not Saying Who Will Be Next Prime Minister

The ruling Republican Party, which swept the May 6 parliamentary elections in Armenia, convened a meeting of its executive board yesterday.

Kalust Sahakyan, who heads the party’s parliamentary faction, today told reporters that he knew who the country’s next prime minister would be but that he didn’t want to jump the gun and name names.

Speaking in the third person, Sahakyan said,” Everything is clear for thr Republican Party and Galust Sahakyan is very aware of it all, but given that the political arena has several issues to iron out I won’t permit myself to name names beforehand.”

Sahakyan argued that the reason why his party was victorious was due to its successes in the economic sector.

When I asked Sahakyan what the party would do for the people given that it received a majority of votes of the people, Sahakyan replied, “We have started to give from the moment we took control.”

He added that the Republican Party was ready to sit down and talk with all political forces and to unite all political forces.

Sahakyan confessed that official talks hadn’t yet taken place but that corrections have been ironed out with all forces except for HAK (Armenian National Congress).
