22 Armenian Teachers Complete One-Year Human Rights Training Course

Twenty two secondary school teachers of social sciences from various Armenian regions are participating in a six-day training session in Tsaghkadzor of the Kotayk marz of Armenia that concludes on 18 August 2012.

It is the concluding part of a one-year course launched last year by non-governmental organization Armenian Constitutional Right-Protective Centre with the support of the OSCE Office in Yerevan to enhance the legal and human rights knowledge and competencies of social science teachers.

The programme started with an intensive three-week training course in July 2011 to introduce teachers to teaching methodologies. The main topics of the course were compiled in accordance with the state educational program.

Lectures were delivered by local experts and representatives from various international organizations, including the OSCE, the UN and the Save the Children non governmental organization on human rights protection frameworks, with a special focus on the rights of the child.

The course continued over one year through distance learning and will conclude during the current session with exams and the handing over of certificates.

The project was implemented as part of a memorandum signed in December 2010 by the OSCE Office and the Education and Science Ministry on advancing human rights education at all levels in the country.
