The trial in which blogger Tigran Kocharyan (aka Pigh) is suing the Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun newspaper for slander got underway at a Yerevan court.

The blogger is suing the paper for a article it ran entitled “The Fascist and the Elephant; In Defense of Elephants”. (Pigh, in Armenian, means elephant)

 Davit Matevosyan, director of the newspaper’s publisher, told the court that they had only received the suit papers on August 23, due to a postal mix-up, and that they had no time to present a reply.

Kocharyan’s attorney did not oppose the request to provide time to the defense to prepare a rebuttal.

The trial has been postponed until September 24.
