Police Deny Reports of Fracas Between Prosperous Armenia and Republican Party Supporters

According to reports that “Hetq” has obtained from the police public affairs division nothing more than an argument broke out last evening between the son of Kanaker-Zeytun district leader Arayik Kotantchyan and members of the Prosperous Armenian Party (PAP). This contradicts earlier press reports that a crowd of Republican Party members, led by Kotantchyan’s son, had attacked the PAP campaign headquarters in the district.

A few hours later, PAP supporters are said to have attacked the Republican Party campaign headquarters located next to the Zvartnots cinema in retaliation. The Republican Party members inside immediately called the police.

Photo-journalist Gagik Shamshyan arrived on the scene to see police gathered outside the Republican Party headquarters. Mr. Shamshyan took photos of several expensive foreign cars outside the headquarters. A Mercedes-Benz bearing the license plate known to belong to Grisha Sargsyan, the Armavir military police chief, was spotted outside.

The Kanaker-Zeytun police stated that while they are investigating the incident, no police intervention was called for since there was no physical scuffling or blows thrown by the two sides. The police added that the Republican Party and the PAP also confirm that no attacks on their headquarters occurred.
