Raffi Hovanisian Rally Kicks Off in Freedom Square

Thousands have gathered at Yerevan’s Freedom Square in support of Raffi Hovannisian, the candidate who says he and not Serzh Sargsyan, was victorious in the February 18 presidential election.

Hovannisian has called for Sargsyan to peacefully hand over the reins of power to him, the people’s choice.

Yesterday the two met at the Presidential Palace for a private discussion. Afterwards, Hovannisian stated that he would reveal the details of their conversation at today’s public rally.

Kicking off today’s rally, Heritage Party Vice President Armen Martirosyan told the crowd that the road they have taken must lead to victory since the alternative would spell the ruin of Armenia.

“Thus, all of us together, will travel down this road to that victory which was launched on February 18,” said Martirosyan.

He added that two months ago, at the start of the election campaign, no one believed that the people would emerge victorious but that Raffi Hovannisian declared it was possible.
