Human Rights Defender Says Police Must Substantiate Rejection of Electoral Violation Claims

Armenia’s Human Rights Defender (HRD) has called on the police to offer detailed proof substantiating their investigation in cases when they reject claims of electoral violations.

The HRD says that of the ten cases it has filed with the police, two have been thrown out and the other eight are still under review.

The two rejected cases involve allegations of election bribes being distributed in the town of Sisian and the village of Verin Getashen.

The HRD states that the police must be forthcoming about the information it amassed to reject these cases, adding that criminal investigations must be launched even if there is one iota of conflicting evidence.
