Akhalkalak City Council Pushes for Armenian as Regional Language

The Akhalkalak City Council has filed a request with the Georgian Parliament to grant Armenian the status of a regional language, this according to The Messenger Online.

City Council member Sargis Uzounyan proposed the initiative, arguing that since Georgia supports EU integration it must adhere to policies aimed at protecting and encouraging the languages of national minorities.

The Akhalkalak City Council is mostly made up of Armenians.
