Hovannisian to End Hunger Strike: Calls for Street Protests
Raffi Hovannisian announced at today’s Barevolution rally in Liberty Square that he would end his two-week-old hunger strike on Easter Sunday to make sure he had enough energy to keep up his political work.
"I will complete my modest hunger strike, which was for the sake of faith, the homeland, peace and the future," Hovannisian told supporters.
After the rally, Gagik Ginosyan and his traditional dance troupe Garin took the stage.
On Saturday, a concert featuring the group Bambir and singer Lilit Papoyan will take center stage at Liberty Square.
Hovannisian said he would be starting another round of regional tours on April 1 to mobilize supporters.
The next rally is scheduled for Friday, April 5. Hovannisian said that plans for April 9, inauguration day, would be finalized then. There are calls to stage an alternative presidential inauguration somewhere in Yerevan.
Serzh Sargsyan, who has been declared the winner of the February 18 presidential election, is to be inaugurated at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex.
