Off-Shore Question Irritates Minister: 'Haven't you heard of the presumption of innocence?'

When opposition HAK MP Levon Zurabyan questioned Minister of Justice Hrayr Tovmasyan in parliament today about the off-shore scandal implicating Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the minister shot back, “Do you think I have to answer to you as well as to the Cyprus government?”

Minister Tovmasyan, visibly irritated at the question, added that the matter was in the hands of the Prosecutor General and that the government had a vested interest in getting to the truth.

“Don’t you even possess the basic understanding of the principle of the presumption of innocence? The accused isn’t under any obligation to prove he isn’t guilty,” said Tovmasyan.
