Cyprus Troika's Ashot Sukiasyan Arrested in Tbilisi Airport
Ashot Sukiasyan, the businessman who went into hiding after Hetq broke the Cyprus offshore story, was arrested yesterday in Tbilisi, Georgia.
It appears that Sukiasyan was detained at Tbilisi Airport while goin through Georgia passport control. He had just disembarked a flight from Turkey.
Hetq was informed of this latest development in the case by Armenian police officials, who said that Sukiasyan was tracked down and arrested through a joint operation of Armenian police, the Interpol office in Armenia, and Georgia law enforcement.
Armenian police told Hetq that Sukiasyan’s extradition to Armenia is being hashed out.
Armenian police issued a search warrant for Sukiasyan last June and charged him with large-scale embezzlement and money laundering.
While on the run, Sukiasyan claimed that it was he who added the names of Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and Archbishop Navasard Kjoyan to a registry document of an off-shore company called Wlispera Holdings Limited.
