President Sargsyan Heads Armenian Delegation to Iran

14_03-s_sargsyan-visit-ranRoA President Serzh Sargsyan yesterday met with the President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. The three day visit is the Armenian president's first to the Islamic Republic of Iran. During the Armenian president's visit, Iran and Armenia are scheduled to finalize an agreement on the construction of a railway that connects the two countries and enhances economic cooperation. During the Tehran meeting the presidents of the two countries discussed bilateral relations as a well as a broad framework of regional questions. "Iran and Armenia should promote relations in different areas including trade, energy and transportation," Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a Monday meeting with his visiting Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan. Earlier this month, the two neighboring countries agreed to implement a joint project on construction of a 470-kilometer (292-mile) railway, the bulk of it passing through Armenian territory. The project will take at least five years and cost up to USD 1.2 billion (EUR 892 million). Also in the high-ranking Armenian delegation to Iran are Foreign Minister Edward Nakbandian, Armen Movsisyan; Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and President of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Committee; Gourgen Sargasyan, Minister of Transport and Communications; Hranush Hakobyan, Minister of Diaspora Affairs; Nerses Yeritsyan, Minister of the Economy; Artur Javadyan, President of the RoA Central Bank; Karen Karapetyan, Executive Director of HayRusGazArd; and others.
